Practical Sleep Remedies to Cure Sleep Problems

Electromagnetic fields (EMFs)

  •  Remove anything that emits EMFs. Make sure your bedroom is free of all electrical equipment, such as TVs, DVDs, stereos and computers and anything that emits electromagnetic energy. Remove mobile or cordless phones from anywhere near your bedside when you sleep. The only exception to this would be an electric lamp, but try and use one that has soft lighting. If it seems a wrench to remove your plasma from your bedroom wall, just think how important your sleep is. You need to prioritize and give yourself every chance of getting into a regular healthy sleep routine, which will help you be so much more productive in your daily life.
  •  Buy a natural daylight alarm clock, which slowly turns off the light at night and on in the morning, giving a similar effect to sunrise and sunset. They can be a little expensive, but you can’t put too high a price on sleeping well. They are also much more conducive to natural sleep patterns than an alarm clock or clock radio.

Lifestyle and stress

  •  Relax before bedtime. Avoid watching TV in the evening for two nights a week or as often as you can. Instead, read a book or spend a relaxing evening doing things that won’t stimulate your mind. Even if you can do this once or twice a week, it is highly likely that you will sleep well on the nights when your mind is not bombarded with TV imagery. Try it and see how different it feels.
  •  Avoid stress as much as possible by listening to relaxation CDs, exercising, having fun, eating healthily, meditating, playing sport, practicing yoga, tai chi or any relaxation exercise.
  •  Revere your sleep. It is so important for you to get a full night’s sleep. Make sure that this is a priority in your life. If ever you have a sleep-deprived night, make plans to redeem this the next night so that you are never in sleep debt for long.

One of the main obstacles to getting off to sleep is having a busy mind. If you are constantly going over problems in your mind, your thinking and judgement become clouded, but when you mentally relax and switch off your conscious thoughts, you take back control.
